Granular Micronutrients vs. Liquid Impregnation Products

When it comes to preventing and addressing nutrient deficiencies, not all micronutrient products offer the same return on your investment.

Granular Micronutrients:

  • Granular micronutrients are not dependent on the NPKS granular fertilizer for distribution - providing the flexibility to apply as much or as little granular micronutrient as possible.
  • Granular micronutrients can provide the required micronutrients for a crop’s immediate needs as well as for soil buildup and extended plant needs.
  • Granular micronutrients can be built into fertility prescriptions for variable rate applications. The ability to apply variable rate fertilizer is essential to optimizing your farming operation.

Liquid Impregnation Products:

  • Liquid impregnation products are dependent on the NPKS granular fertilizer for distribution... meaning lower rates of NPKS fertilizer equals lower amounts of micronutrients.
  • There is simply not enough micronutrient to supplement the plant's need in the growing season or in the future despite the adequate distribution.
  • Variable rate prescriptions cannot be created when using an impregnation product.

Choosing a granular micronutrient product over a liquid impregnation product is a more effective and economic choice when trying to prevent and address micronutrient deficiencies.

Liquid Impregnation Calculator

The calculator shows the actual amount of micronutrient per acre, given your desired impregnation product application rate and fertilizer rate.

Results

Based on a desired product application rate of 2.0lb rate (ml/ac) – medium/high and a fertilizer rate of 80 lbs/acre, the pounds of actual micronutrient per acre supplied would be 0.159. This would require an application rate of impregnation product per metric tonne of fertilizer of 19.84 L/MT.

The recommended application rate (tolerance) is 2-4 L/MT of liquid micronutrient product based on published rates of 1 lb.

In most cases with impregnation products, the actual micronutrient amount is minimal and less than what would be required to correct or address a deficiency. On top of that, the application rate of impregnation product required per MT of fertilizer is likely far higher than the recommended rate of 2 - 4 L/MT.

NexusBioAg granular micronutrients are not dependent on the NPKS granular fertilizer for distribution and therefore provide the flexibility to apply as much or as little granular micronutrient as needed.
